How We Build Asphalt on Yazoo Clay
Asphalt Paving Jackson builds and maintains asphalt driveways, parking lots and private drives in Jackson and the towns around it in Hinds, Madison and Rankin counties. The work runs from new driveways and gravel-to-asphalt conversions to resurfacing, pothole and crack repair, sealcoating and parking lot striping.
Paving in the Jackson area is a soil problem before it is an asphalt problem. Much of the metro sits on Yazoo clay, a montmorillonite clay that swells when it is wet and shrinks and cracks when it dries. Add close to 57 inches of rain a year and long dry spells in late summer, and the ground under a driveway is always moving. Pavement laid thin over that clay, without a real stone base, is why so many drives and lots around Jackson crack, heave and pothole within a few years.
So every estimate starts on the ground. We measure the area, look for heaved or sunken sections, check where water goes in a storm, and note whether the driveway meets a city street, a county road or a state highway. Each of those has its own permit process for work at the road, and we tell you which one applies before anything is scheduled.
What you can expect
- A written, itemized quote: removal, undercut allowance, stone base depth, compacted asphalt thickness and drainage work, each priced.
- A straight repair-or-replace call. If crack sealing and patching will buy you years, we say so.
- Utility locates requested through MS811 before any digging or grading.
- Paving scheduled for dry ground, not just the next open date.
- Any change in scope put in writing for your approval before the work is done.
