Lines That Work
Parking lot striping marks the stalls, aisles, arrows, crosswalks and fire lanes that make a lot usable and safe. Paint wears faster than the pavement under it; HomeGuide says a well-maintained striping job lasts about 2 to 5 years depending on traffic, weather and paint. Under Jackson's strong summer sun and heavy rain, lines on a busy lot fade toward the short end. Faded lines lead to crooked parking, lost spaces and confusion at entrances.
Restriping and ADA
Restriping is not just repainting. Under the Department of Justice's guidance, restriping a lot means the accessible spaces have to meet the 2010 ADA Standards. That means the right count for the lot size (for example, 1 accessible space for 1 to 25 total spaces, 2 for 26 to 50, 3 for 51 to 75 and 4 for 76 to 100), at least one van-accessible space, car spaces at least 96 inches wide with a 60-inch access aisle, and van spaces 132 inches wide with a 60-inch aisle or 96 inches with a 96-inch aisle. Signs must sit with their bottom edge at least 60 inches above the ground. We check your existing layout against those numbers before painting.
New layouts
For a new lot, a fresh overlay or a lot that never worked well, we plan the layout first: stall size and angle, aisle widths, traffic direction, crosswalks to the entrance and room for delivery trucks. HomeGuide notes that a new layout costs 20 to 50 percent more than restriping existing lines, because everything has to be measured and snapped out from scratch.
Markings we paint
Stall lines, accessible-space symbols and aisles, directional arrows, stop bars, crosswalks, fire lanes, loading zones, numbered spaces and curb paint. Fire lane and curb markings should match what the local fire marshal requires; we confirm that for your address.
Timing
Striping needs a dry, clean surface. On a freshly sealcoated lot, lines go down after the sealer has cured. We schedule around your hours, often early mornings or weekends, and block off sections so the lot stays partly open.
Keeping lines readable
Lines last longer on clean, sound pavement. Paint over loose, raveling asphalt flakes off with the surface, so on worn lots we suggest crack sealing and sealcoating before a full restripe. Between restripes, keeping the lot swept and repairing potholes promptly protects both the pavement and the paint.

Parking Lot Striping Questions
How much does parking lot striping cost?
HomeGuide lists $4 to $5 per standard stall and $25 to $40 per accessible stall nationally, with a 30 to 50 stall lot averaging $500 to $1,200. Mobilization fees and new layouts add to the total.
How many accessible spaces do we need?
Under the 2010 ADA Standards: 1 for lots of 1 to 25 spaces, 2 for 26 to 50, 3 for 51 to 75 and 4 for 76 to 100, with at least one van-accessible space. Larger lots follow the full table.
How often should a lot be restriped?
HomeGuide says striping lasts about 2 to 5 years. Busy lots and lots in full sun fade sooner. Restriping after each sealcoat is common.
Can you stripe the same day as sealcoating?
Not until the sealer has cured, usually 12 to 72 hours depending on the weather. We schedule striping right after the cure.
