Asphalt paving in Gluckstadt serves a city that has only existed since June 2021. Residents filed an incorporation petition on January 31, 2017, and Canton's competing annexation plan kept the case in court until the Mississippi Supreme Court ruled in 2021 that Gluckstadt could incorporate. The 2020 census, taken just before, counted 3,208 people on about 8.8 square miles. The city held its first municipal general election in 2025. German roots, modern subdivisions

Gluckstadt was settled in June 1905 by German Catholic families from Klaasville, in Lake County, Indiana. The name means "Lucky Town," and an annual German festival is still held on the grounds of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Today the community mixes older rural homes on larger lots with newer subdivisions. The older places often have long gravel or chip-seal driveways that owners want to convert to asphalt; the newer homes have driveways from the builder that are starting to need their first maintenance.

Converting a long gravel drive

On a long rural driveway, the hardest part is usually the base, not the asphalt. Years of gravel and traffic leave ruts, soft spots and a crown that has worn flat. We regrade the existing stone, add and compact new base where needed, and shape the surface so water runs off to the sides instead of down the middle. For very long drives, paving the first stretch from the road and the area near the house, and leaving the middle as gravel, is a budget option worth considering.

Madison County is one of the counties where Yazoo clay is found, the soil that swells when wet and shrinks when dry.
