Asphalt paving in Terry usually means either a short driveway in town or a long drive out on a rural lot. Terry is a small town in southeastern Hinds County, about 15 miles southwest of Jackson, bordered on the north by Byram. The area was settled in 1811 by families from Virginia, and the town itself was established in 1867 as a railroad depot when the line came through. It was first called Dry Grove and later renamed for W. D. Terry, on whose land it was built.
